Chimney Rock trail

Chimney Rock is apparently one of the most popular trails in Point Reyes, which is kind of why I’d never been there. I generally try to avoid crowds on trails. But the alleged burrowing owl I was looking for wasn’t too far from Chimney Rock and I didn’t see the owl, so I figured I’d just keep on going to the end of the road and check out Chimney Rock. I’ve heard it’s especially crowded during wildflower season, so I thought maybe in November it wouldn’t be that bad. And it really wasn’t. The parking lot was mostly full, true, but it’s not a huge parking lot, and although the trail isn’t very long (maybe a mile each way), there seemed to be enough space that I never felt crowded and in fact often had the trail to myself. However, I found it so incredibly beautiful that I’ve decided I will definitely return during wildflower season to see it even more beautiful, crowds be damned. Those of you who don’t live in the Bay Area, should you ever visit this area, I strongly urge you to visit Point Reyes National Seashore – it’s truly one of the most beautiful places I’ve been, and I’ve been to some of the most beautiful places in the world.
