I feel sorry for people who don’t have personal owl gurus like I do. My owl guru, Sharon, is an experienced birder who is really good at finding owls (and other birds). She’s had FAR more luck with burrowing owls this year than I have: I didn’t see any between March 2016 and mid-February 2017, despite numerous expeditions specifically looking for them. Sharon saw one in Berkeley a couple weeks ago and tipped me off, so I went looking for him a couple days later and was FINALLY SUCCESSFUL!! He was a bit camera shy, but surprisingly close to the trail (though protected by a fence). I was just glad to see one after so many failed tries.
