It gradually got lighter after totality, but the quality of light remained exceedingly eerie for a few minutes. Then it started to just look normal again, and then the clouds covered the sun up again and that was about it for us. Really it was almost miraculous how the clouds parted just in time for us to see the most important bit, and I feel very fortunate to have seen it. I asked the owl guru if she’d see anything interesting back home in the Bay Area and she responded: “fog, then slightly darker fog, then lighter fog”, so I’m glad I made this trip and got to see something a little more interesting than slightly dark fog. (I feel a little sorry for the owl guru not being able to see the eclipse, but not COMPLETELY sorry because she did some pretty awesome owling in my absence…)
