Fishing

Sigh. I really did try to ID this bird before letting this post, but I AM BUSY and I only have a short time today to try to line up some posts and I’m just not positive I know what this is so I’m secretly hoping Sharon will just tell me. I know I’m only going to learn if I figure it out on my own most of the time but have I mentioned I’m busy?? Sometimes I just don’t post a bird here if I don’t know what it is but I really liked that I caught this guy eating so not only am I posting the photos, I’m posting a whole sequence of them.

LOL. It’s a Willet. Shorebirds are tricky because in Winter they’re all sort of grey and white, and in Summer they’re mostly all brown and white with similarly barred or scaled. Willets are nice though, in being sort of uniquely big and bulky – they’re smaller than Godwits, but there’s sort of an “oomph” to them. By the way, there’s a *ton* of activity at Frank’s Dump these days. You should be able to find a birder or five at any time. They’re usually happy to answer questions, as long as you catch them between birds.

Thanks! And I’ll have to head down to Frank’s Dump soon. Hayward Shoreline sure has some interesting area names. 🙂
