I heard there was a bald eagle nest at Lake Berryessa in Napa. I MISS BALD EAGLES. I regularly went bald eagle nest stalking in Virginia, where I was accustomed to seeing several eagles a day at most of my regular favorite haunts, and bald eagle viewing was especially spectacular in February there when they started nesting and before the trees leafed out. So I decided to go scope out this nest in Lake Berryessa. Well, I saw a nest but I don’t know if it is occupied this year and I saw ZERO eagles, and in fact practically zero raptors. I can’t remember if I even saw a red tail that day and I ALWAYS see a red tail. At least the weather was insanely gorgeous and the lake, although it looks rather low to me, was pretty. I was almost reminded of walking along the Potomac back in Virginia…except for the fact that when I went eagle nest spotting along the Potomac, I SAW EAGLES.
I’m not complaining, it was a very pretty day! It’s just that I really love bald eagles.
Smittle Creek trail:
There was a pair nesting at Lake Chabot for a couple of years, Lately they’re being spotted at Contra Loma (Clayton) and Quarry Lakes (Fremont).
As always, thanks for the tip, Sharon! I’ve been seeing a lot of interesting photos taken at Quarry Lakes and think I need to check it out ASAP.
