It was nearly sunset when I left Ano Nuevo State Park the other weekend following my elephant seal tour. Driving north on Highway 1, I saw Pigeon Point lighthouse and decided to stop and take some photos of the sun setting. There were a few other photographers there with the same idea. The sunset wasn’t the most spectacular I’ve seen – we get some really amazing sunsets out here – and when it was pretty much over, I turned around and took a long exposure shot facing the opposite direction. When I turned back around after THAT photo, the light had done this incredible thing and turned the sky a glorious pink. One of the other photographers, who had packed up to leave, came running down to where I was to try to capture it, and I was certainly glad I had waited around!
