These pictures actually come chronologically before I went to Big Basin, as described in my prior post, but I forgot I hadn’t blogged about them. Don Castro Regional Recreational Area is not too far from our house so I drove over there after work one day last week to check it out. The main attraction of this park is a public swimming lagoon, and part of my agenda was to check that out to see if it’s something I would like to do sometime. There is also a fishing lake, the fishing aspect of which does not interest me, but I like being near water. What I liked most about Don Castro, though, was that a lot of my short hike around the lake was wooded. TREES! AND there is a small waterfall. It’s man-made and really not super exciting, but as it turns out, it was a lot nicer to photograph than Sempervirens Falls in Big Basin.
Here are some pictures from my short but pleasant hike. I liked it because of the trees, though the closest I came in my quest for wildlife – particularly in feline form – was a black feral cat. Because it’s so close and easy, it will be a nice place for me to go after work, even on days I work a little later, for a nice walk to clear my head. Also, TREES. I actually tried to return a couple days later to check out the swimming lagoon, but by then we were in the midst of a 2-day heatwave of near 100-degree temperatures and the lagoon was at capacity when I got there. I guess I wasn’t the only one with that brilliant idea.
