Garin/Dry Creek Park

I LOVED the parks back in Virginia, and I visited them nearly daily in the spring, summer, and fall, but it usually required some advanced planning: I’d have to pack hiking clothes and shoes, as well as my camera, in the morning, then try to slip out of work before afternoon rush hour, eating something on the way so I wouldn’t starve. Now, though, not only am I working from home, but I can walk to a trailhead for a nice regional park. Whenever I feel like it! (Well, whenever I feel like it and I’m not working…)

On my regular loop, I first walk though a wooded area, which makes me happy, but soon enough I inevitably exit the shade of the trees and find myself on a brown hill out in the sun.

But then suddenly:

More brown hill:

The terrain here is SO different than Virginia I feel like I’m on an other planet.

Do I miss Virginia parks? Yes. But one thing I was always missing in Virginia was the sunset. It seemed like no matter where I was, there were always trees (or worse, buildings) blocking the sunset. Here, though, I can watch the sun set over the bay from my back yard every night. Or from the trail:

I’m not keeping score, but if I were, the sunset point would go to the Bay Area.
