This is a bird

I mentioned recently how I do try to ID almost all the birds I take pictures of, but bird identification is something I struggle with. I’ve also mentioned how busy I am, so I generally give up after 10 minutes or so. Usually I just won’t post the photos I can’t ID, but the day after I went to San Pedro Valley Park, my work VPN was down and I was unable to work. I also couldn’t leave the house because I had a meeting and also in case the VPN got fixed. I was pretty annoyed because I am busy at work and don’t have time for malfunctions, but I DID have a LOT of photos from the day before to process. Because I was tethered to my computer but otherwise not doing much, I spent about an hour trying to identify this bird. I think I at least glanced at every page of my Stokes’ Birds of Northern America field guide. Every time I thought I may have IDed it, I’d see some characteristic that disproved it. So I’m posting these photos anyway. I’m sure it’s something super easy. It’s pretty, whatever it is. It certainly has a distinctive eye.

It’s a Wrentit! Lucky you, they are skulkers and often very hard to see, much less photograph – though they are very commonly heard.

Renae & Sharon, cool! I don’t know western birds -at all- so I’ve been checking back here to see if anyone came up with an ID. Cornell says it’s not closely related to any other North American species, cool!
