Much of my fall and winter life is spent in search of burrowing owls, who winter around the Bay Area (they tend to stay year-round in the South Bay). I’m not generally successful in my searches, but the owl guru has better luck than I do and tipped me off to this one in Albany. Burrowing owls are probably my favorite owls, although really whatever owl I’m looking at is my favorite owl. And guess what! Right now I have my own owl! Well, he’s not really mine, he’s a hospital patient that I’m providing home care for while he recovers from a serious eye injury. He’s a little Western screech owl. I’m excited to have him, though. I can’t publish photos of him because he’s a patient, so instead concentrate on how cool this burrowing owl is.
