Sunol birds

At one point in Sunol the other day the owl guru said, a bit desperately, “I really like quail, but I’d also like to see some other kind of bird today.”

I pointed out that we had also seen a lot of woodpeckers, particularly of the acorn persuasion.

Early in our walk I had commented that I also see a lot of kestrels in Sunol. It took until almost the end of the day but finally a nice pair made an appearance.

Also one of the very last birds we saw was this rock wren, a species I wasn’t familiar with but was apparently a pretty big deal for the guru’s checklists. Success!
