I don’t even exactly remember how, but I managed to get myself signed up for a special tour of piece of property that was recently acquired by the East Bay Regional Park District and that will become part of a new park that is opening in the fall. I was originally on a wait list for the tour but then a spot opened up for me just a couple of days before the trip. I took off work that day and drove out to Antioch, which is only an hour away but somewhere I hadn’t yet been. For some reason, it was like being in a different state: the supermarket and gas station chains were all different than in more of the “inner” Bay Area. Anyway, I was kind of hoping to see some wildlife on the tour, as it was kind of a remote location and not open to the public, but I didn’t see much at all. The guy leading the tour was a botanist, though, and was very excited about some of the wildflowers at Roddy Ranch, so that was fun.
This is Mount Diablo, as seen from Roddy Ranch.
