You may recall that a few weeks ago, I saw my first ferruginous hawk in Brushy Peak Regional Park and I found it extremely exciting. Well a couple of weeks ago, I returned to Brushy Peak in order to go on a tour of another nearby park (more to come on that tomorrow), and a couple of miles from the Brushy Peak parking lot I saw this gorgeous ferruginous just hanging out on a lamp post! There was no traffic on the road so I ignored the “no stopping” sign I was next to and just parked right in the middle of the road, got out, and took these pictures. Because that’s how I roll: raptor-obsessed and a little law-breaky. I had been slightly disappointed by the sharpness of my first ferrug pictures (that one was in flight, though really very close so I should have done better), so I was very happy to be able to take these. Look how huge and awesome he is! Then I saw some headlights approaching behind me in the distance so I got back in my car and continued on my merry way…
