Peregrine Falcon

It seems to be the case with me that I don’t positively identify falcons until I get home. You may recall my recent post about my first prairie falcon, which the owl guru and I didn’t officially ID until I got home and cleaned up the photos. Actually I guess the problem is I take really bad photos of falcons… Anyway, as I was walking around Chimney Rock, I was thinking it seemed like prime peregrine territory so I was sort of hoping to see one. I had never seen a peregrine in the wild before and it was one of my goals. I’m especially fond of peregrines because I am very close to the resident peregrine at Sulphur Creek Nature Center: I am one of his handlers and he and I have a special bond. I hand feed him and we do a lot of gazing into each other’s eyes. OK, I’m getting off topic here. So I was looking for peregrines at Chimney Rock and thought I saw one once or twice, but it was hard to tell because the sun was bright and the birds were in silhouette. It wasn’t until I got home later and processed the photos that I realized I had indeed captured one! I told you this was a great day! Point Reyes is AWESOME.

I think I’ve shared this photo of me and Elvis here before, but here are me and “my” peregrine.
