Brushy Peak Regional Park

I hated winter in Virginia and Maryland – too cold, too snowy – but I actually like it in California, other than the too-short days. One of my favorite things, which still seems weird, is that the hills turn green in the winter. Growing up on the East Coast, I’m used to verdant spring and summers, then everything turning brown in fall and winter, so the concept of a dry season and a wet season taking the place of “real” seasons, is a bit foreign – especially with the wet season being winter, which means everything is brown and dry in the summer and green and lush in the winter. The rains have begun – it’s been raining all weekend as I type this (a week in the past), which I find a little frustrating as I REALLY wanted to go out hiking, but drought-stricken Californians aren’t allowed to complain about rain – and the hills are turning green. They will get even greener as the season progresses. I have a feeling Brushy Peak Regional Park is prettier right now than it is in the summer.
