GGRO banding demonstration and release

Some more of the GGRO banding demonstration on Hawk Hill the other week. These pictures remind me that something I’ve been worrying about lately is how terrible I look in photographs, particularly photographs I don’t take (and edit) myself. I’ve been participating in more educational programs, usually as a raptor handler, and I get photographed a lot. In fact, I was photographed quite a bit today at a bird festival. Of course, the photographers were REALLY taking pictures of the birds, not me, but most of them were using cell phones so there’s no way they were zooming right in on the bird: I’m in the photo whether I or they like it or not. Which means just like I am here posting photos of this banding volunteer without his knowledge or permission, there may be photos out there of me holding my raptors and I’m sure I look simply terrible in 99% of them. I try not to let things like this keep me up at night. I must really love holding raptors if I’m willing to let strangers photograph me doing it. Anyway, on with the demonstration and the Cooper’s hawk that was by now quite anxious to get back in the air.
