I have a book of “hidden walks”, most of which are in Berkeley. I haven’t spent a lot of time in Berkeley, but I feel a rather spiritual connection with the place. When my mother first got into genealogy years ago she jokingly offered to research my “real parents in Berkeley”. I’m not adopted (I’m pretty sure!) but I’ve always been somewhat of a misfit. I think I may have been a student at UC Berkeley during the Summer of Love in a previous life. I think I’d have been perfectly happy in that life. Anyway, putzing around Preservation Park didn’t take up a lot of time so I decided to head over to Berkeley afterwards and check out one of these “hidden walks”. The one I chose was centered on Tamalpais Path, one of many pedestrian paths that meander through Berkeley’s achingly picturesque neighborhoods. Of course I didn’t do anything as intelligent as bring the book with me and I just entered “Tamalpais Path” into Google Maps, which took me to the top, rather than the book’s starting point of the bottom, which got me all turned around at first, so I didn’t fully go on the walk suggested by the book, but I was totally charmed by the path, and the nearby park, and the houses, and well, I just need to move to Berkeley. This is Tamalpais Path:
