I’ve been trying to think of kind of different things I can take pictures of besides just parks. Maybe historical things, although around here if you say you want to visit historical sites you may be directed to a mission and I am NOT ready to deal with that. (I’m not cool with the glorification of missions or the treatment of Native Americans by either the missionaries or, worse, our government, or the whitewashing the school system here apparently does about it.) Visiting a mission will make me angry, not provide a bunch of fun photo ops. So I tried to find something historical that won’t make me angry. I really like Victorian houses. There aren’t that many in Hayward where I live, but there are a lot in places like nearby Oakland. In fact, there’s a whole two blocks full of restored Victorians called Preservation Park in Oakland that I decided to check out the other day. It wasn’t as cool as the Victorian house walk I did in San Francisco years ago when visiting for a conference, but it was pretty nifty for a quick visit and some snapshots.
