People love to talk about manzanita trees around here! I wasn’t familiar with them before moving here from the East Coast, but people here seem to appreciate them quite a bit. When I was finishing up my pictures of the quail that I showed in the last couple of posts, a man appeared in the trail ahead of me and stood stock still when he saw me. Although he couldn’t see the quail, he knew I saw something and didn’t want to scare it off, which was very considerate of him. When I looked up after the last quail disappeared he correctly guessed it had been quail and then said he was waiting for his wife who was also taking pictures. So next I passed the wife and asked her if she had gotten pictures of the quail and she said no, she’d missed them entirely but that the manzanitas ahead were extremely lovely. It’s not the first time I’ve been told about manzanita. And it’s true: it really is lovely!
