The other weekend I visited San Pedro Valley Park in Pacifica on my second excursion with my new “hiking” camera, and I have to say I think I’ve decided I am quite pleased with my decision to buy the camera. At first I worried I was using carpal tunnel as an excuse to buy stuff I didn’t really need, plus I was worried the camera’s inferiority to my “real” cameras would annoy me (I was ready to return it if that turned out to be the case). But I was practically skipping around the park with my new super-light backpack and single, light camera that requires very few accessories! I felt like I was walking on clouds! (This sensation was intensified by the omnipresent Bay Area fog.) And I was actually pretty impressed by the results I got with the camera. There was only one instance when I missed my 7DII: a red-tailed hawk in flight, although the hawk was actually so far away (through fog), there’s next to no chance the 7DII would have gotten any pictures let alone better ones. San Pedro also ended up being a great choice that day; I saw lots of wildlife and the scenery was beautiful and I was able to give many aspects of the camera a good workout. I considered the day a great success! You’ll be seeing some of my photos over the next few posts.
One of my favorite things to photograph when we visit Mark’s family in Charleston, SC is the Spanish moss that hangs from many of the trees there, as it’s something that doesn’t occur up in the Mid-Atlantic states I have lived in. So when I found that Spanish moss sometimes adorns the California oak trees here, I was pleased!
