I’ve mentioned my love of corvids (the crow family) before and jays are a member. I see Western scrub jays ALL the time; in fact, a few have moved into my yard and eat at my previously underused bird feeder, to the delight of my cats. They also hang out near trails in most of the parks I visit. What I see less frequently in the wild are Stellar’s jays, which I am especially partial to because we have a Stellar’s at Sulphur Creek Nature Center where I volunteer and he is extremely personable and friendly. I was happy, therefore, to see a pair of Stellar’s jays while hiking in Vargas Plateau the other day:
What a beautiful bird!
