Many of the parks I visit at part of the East Bay Regional Park District, which is the largest urban regional park system in the country, something I’m very happy to live near and utilize nearly every day. They just opened a brand-new park in early May of this year: Vargas Plateau, though they’ve owned the land since 1995. Of course I was there to check it out just a couple days after it opened. It’s small – you could hike the entire park in a few hours – but fairly convenient to my house.
