Butterflies can be challenging for me to photograph because when I’m out I often carry a DSLR with a 400mm lens and a mirrorless camera with a wide angle lens, which leaves me prepared for most situations: long telephoto for wildlife; wide angle for landscapes. Neither is good for butterflies, though, as I’d have to get too close with the wide angle, and I usually can’t get far enough away with the telephoto. There were taken with the telephoto; I had to just keep backing up until they came into focus, and fortunately they were so focused on collecting their nectar that they stuck around long enough for that to happen.
