I see Northern Harriers pretty regularly, but for some reason I’ve never photographed a male. Male and female Northern Harriers are an interesting case of raptor color dimorphism, with females being brown and males gray; pretty unusual in the raptor world where often the only differences between the sexes is size. These aren’t great photos, but I’m posting them because it was a first for me and also because I had such a raptor-tastic day that day I can’t help but celebrate even if not all my photos are high quality.
If I were a female Harrier, I would swoon, for sure. I think the males are the most handsome of birds!
Nice to see you, Jain, and I’ll try to get some better pictures for you next time!
