Here’s a little dude I felt really sorry for at Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge: a one-legged black-necked stilt. A lot of waterfowl will balance on one leg when sleeping or relaxing, but I was worried this guy really only had one leg. As it turns out, my fears were confirmed – I saw him fly off and he definitely only had one leg. How does he balance when fishing?? I wish I could make him a prosthetic.
