Ground squirrels in Round Valley

Back in Virginia, we pretty much had Eastern gray squirrels, which you see EVERYWHERE, and flying squirrels, which you NEVER see (because they are nocturnal). Here in California, there are Western gray squirrels, fox squirrels, ground squirrels, even Eastern gray squirrels! I’ve only seen a gray squirrel or two in our yard here (although, interestingly, the ones I have seen were black, which is interesting because black squirrels are fairly rare but we also had them in our yard in Arlington, VA), but I tend to see a lot of ground squirrels when I’m out hiking.
