East Bay Regional Park cattle

I’ve mentioned here before that the East Bay Regional Park authority uses cattle for grazing purposes. I’ve only run into a few of them before today, but I came across a small herd in Sunol this afternoon.

I liked this shy calf.

This one reminded me of Oliver Sacks. Do I keep saying things here that make me sound crazy?

Reminding me much less of Oliver Sacks here…

There is apparently an exceptionally high density of mountain lions in Sunol (like 9 or something, which is a LOT). Did I see any mountain lions? No. I saw a million turkeys, a ground squirrel, and the cattle above. It was still a gorgeous day, though, and for some reason there is no traffic for almost all of the 35 minutes between the park and my house even during the height of rush hour, and since until the days start getting longer I’m going to be stuck driving home from parks during rush hour, I suspect I’ll be going to Sunol a lot this winter. ATTENTION, MOUNTAIN LIONS! Except I read that sometimes in the winter it freaking SNOWS on the Sunol mountains. I moved here to never have to see snow again!
