Another bird I enjoyed seeing at Meadowlark were two green herons. I have a “thing” where I see a great blue heron EVERY time I go out – no matter which park I go to, I see a great blue heron. I even sometimes see them in my neighborhood, which I thought was weird at first but I’ve stopped thinking it’s weird to see any wildlife in my neighborhood because at this point the only things I haven’t seen are bears, bobcats, and coyotes (all of which exist in Fairfax County so it’s entirely possible I could see one, although I think I’d be so excited I’d faint.) Anyway, I love great blue herons – they are so elegant and beautiful – but since I see them all the time, I found myself excited to come across green herons at Meadowlark. I saw two of them in different lakes although I can’t confirm they weren’t the same bird. I didn’t consider the pictures of the second one “keepers”, so both of these pics are of the first one:
