Momma Bobcat

I was complaining earlier in the year that I didn’t have enough photos to post every day, and now I have a glut of them! I’ve been waiting weeks to get to these! And first of all, the owl/bobcat guru gets all the credit for these. I took them but she is the one that found the bobcat. Sharon actually saw babies nursing on the mom. I don’t know if I did: I got some pictures of fur that could be babies but I’m not entirely sure. But I trust Sharon’s word so I can tell you confidently this is a nursing mother. This is by far my favorite photo of 2017 so far, and I don’t expect to get a better one. Artistically it might not be the greatest, but IT’S A NURSING BOBCAT. I was elated. 🙂

Wow, great photos, considering how protective she must have been!

I didn’t know anything about bobcats and looked them up — there are 13 subspecies in North America!

Thank you, Jain! I didn’t know there were 13 subspecies! But as I am certain I will never be lucky enough to see a mountain lion, I consider bobcats to be my #1 hoped-for species when I go out. I felt extraordinarily lucky and grateful to have this encounter.
