Birds in Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve

I wasn’t expecting a lot of wildlife action at Sibley for some reason, so I happened to be traveling relatively lightly that day. Usually when I go hiking around here, I carry two cameras: a DSLR with my 400mm lens ready to capture any wildlife I encounter, and a mirrorless camera with a zoom lens to take landscapes. This day, though, I packed the 400mm in my bag and carried only the DSLR with a zoom lens. I saw more wildlife than I expected, though nothing that made me regret not having the 400mm ready to go. I did HEAR a lot of birdsong though. Here are two of the birds I saw, to which I was close enough I didn’t need the telephoto.

Spotted towhee.
spotted towhee I think

I think this might be a fledgling scrub jay. I spent several hours Friday afternoon feeding about 25 of these guys at one of the wildlife hospitals I volunteer at.
not looking this up looks a little like a fledging jay
