This is a flock of pelicans I saw in Grizzly Island Wildlife Area. When my mom saw these pictures, she asked me what the bump on their beaks was. I’d been wondering the same thing but didn’t know, so I looked it up and apparently it’s a growth that appears only during breeding season and we aren’t completely sure its function, but it’s presumed to be found attractive to other pelicans.
