Sunol Regional Wilderness

This weekend I visited Sunol Regional Wilderness, which was nearly as fun to drive to as it was to hike. Here’s a typical shot of parks around here:

The moon always seems prominent in the late afternoon skies so I’ve been including it in a lot of pictures:

This was a random arrow I found on the trail:

Other than getting used to the brown, dry hills of Bay Area parks as opposed to the green and humid parks of Virginia, my big agenda is to find the best places to see wildlife in the area. I need to find a replacement for my beloved Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, where I ALWAYS saw amazing animals every time I went. So far I haven’t gotten any great wildlife shots here yet. I really, really, really want to see a mountain lion (although I understand this is pretty unlikely), a bobcat, and coyotes. I have seen (but not photographed) a coyote in the area, but not since I moved here. If any readers out there have hot tips for finding wildlife in the Bay Area, please share. 🙂 So far I’ve seen a lot of squirrels – and I’ve noticed that western squirrels look a little different than eastern squirrels.

I’ve also seen some lizards:

Strangely, one of my favorite pictures from the park was a self-portrait I took as part of my Photo365 project (in which I have to take a portrait every day for a year); the strange thing being I hate pictures of myself. I don’t look too terrible here but I’d still rather find some wildlife to photograph instead!
